Why It Is Especially Important That You Backup Files On Your Laptop

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

The mobility afforded by laptop computers makes it very popular for most people around the world. If you have a laptop, you can actually work anywhere you like without much trouble. You can even work in the park or at your favorite coffee shop if you want to.
With the growing demand for laptops all over the globe, this technology is currently evolving at such a very fast pace. Every now and then, manufacturers would churn out some improved versions of the laptops with more sophisticated features. Unfortunately, even though this technology is improving very fast, there are still many things that people who are using laptops need to contend with.

Some of the most notable problems that laptop users often experience are that sometimes; they could not access their hard drives, they have trouble booting or that their laptops are making those funny noises while they are using them. Such problems could actually lead to hard drive failures and loss of data.
Recovering data from your laptop could be more complicated than recovering data from your desktop computer. Note that a laptop is compact and lightweight thus it will need special parts to go with it. Moreover, a laptop is sealed so that it would be more difficult to gain access to the insides of this machine than with the desktop. In the event where you experience troubles with your laptop, if would be a good idea to bring it to the authorized service center for check up.

The technician may need to open up the laptop to find out what is wrong with it. It is not advisable for you to open your laptop on your own especially if you have no special knowledge in laptop technology. The danger with experimenting on your laptop by opening it and tinkering with the parts inside is that you could actually damage the system and lose all your files.

Some system damage could be irreparable so dont tinker with the system if you are not sure of what you are doing. Another reason why you should never attempt to open your laptop on your own is that laptops are very sensitive to dusk. If dust gets into youre the systems of your laptop, this could really wreck havoc on the systems. Laptops should only be opened in certain places where they could be protected from dust and other particles. Otherwise, you could seriously compromise the systems if you just open it without taking precautions.

When it comes to important files on your laptop, it would be wise to back up your files periodically. Remember that the mobile nature of the laptop makes it more susceptible to damage so you should be better prepared for any eventualities. You can burn important files to CDs, the USB drive or in one of those large capacity external drives which you can easily attached to the ports in your laptop.

Why is it Necessary to Clean the Windows Registry

Friday, July 18, 2014

Why is it Necessary to Clean the Windows Registry?:
As I discussed in my last post, all of the hardware, software and operating system configuration used by your computer are stored in the windows registry. All of the individual user preferences, profiles, accounts, etc. are also stored in the registry. That is why an problems with the registry can cause problems from an application not working quite right to the entire operating system crashing.

How Do You Know if Something is wrong with the Windows Registry?

Common symptoms of registry problems are:
  • Slow performance
  • Hardware not working correctly or not at all
  • Computer freezes
  • You keep getting windows or application error messages
  • System crashes (the famous blue screen of death)
  • Takes “forever” to boot up
  • Applications not opening or crashing periodically
  • System won’t boot
The windows registry is a hierarchical database and like all databases, it requires routine maintenance such as compacting, correcting file association, removing corrupted entries, removing tombstones and orphans. Let’s look at each of these items individually.
Compacting – process of reclaiming hard disk space used by the database. Basically it is the process of defragging the database to improve efficiency.
Correcting file associations – anytime you install or uninstall something, changes are made to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT registry hive. Over time there can be a lot of unnecessary or incorrect information stored in this key. Cleaning makes sure that file associations exist only for files that can actually be opened on the machine exist
Corrupted entries – they are just taking up space and are useless and could cause problems if a process tried to use them so they need to be removed
Tombstones – this is data that was written during a specific operation and then marked for deletion during the next compacting or cleaning.
Orphans – are entries that no longer belong to any application or piece of hardware because it no longer exists or in no longer installed on the system

How Do You Clean the Windows Registry?

You could manually edit the registry and remove all of the unnecessary and corrupted data. But unless you are an expert on all of the possible entries in the windows registry, I don’t recommend that you try doing this because if you make a mistake, your operating system may never boot again.
The best way is to use a windows registry cleaner. Registry are software programs written by people who are experts on every possible entry in the registry. These programs will perform all of the necessary maintenance we described above as well as specifically look for damage done by viruses, Trojans and other forms of malware. They will try to repair and/or recover corrupted data if possible. They do this by analyzing your registry entries and comparing then to a set of ‘normalized’ entries. Normalized means that the data is consistent and properly formatted and is a technical term used in databases.
Registry cleaners are a much safer way of doing the routine maintenance on your windows registry.

Where Do You Get Registry Cleaners?

There are two kinds of registry cleaners, commercial and free ones. Here are some of the differences:
Feature FREE Commercial
Quarantine or delete suspected entries Delete Quarantine
Provide technical support NO YES
Offer a FREE scan NO YES
Money Back Guarantee NO YES
Recommendation
Commercial registry cleaners usually do a better job and are safer to use. At least one free registry cleaner is good, but, unless you know a lot about the working registry, use a commercial program.

Is it necessary to have Cooling Pad for laptop

Dear all,

This blog post is meant for those who wonder whether cooling pad is necessary or not for their laptop and for those with new laptops and they worried about laptop overheating. Actually, its a rare case for a new laptop to overheat unless you deliberately block all the air-vent of your laptop.

One way to accidentally block your laptop air-vent system is by putting your laptop on a mattress. One thing to remember, dont put your laptop on top of soft object such as pillow, sofa and etc. It just takes a minute to make your laptop overheat. What overheat can do to your baby? If youre lucky, nothing happen. But, if otherwise, your laptop motherboard may suffer damage and this may cost greatly to you.

Note : If your laptop motherboard fries, please consider buying a new laptop. I believe most cases where you need to replace a motherboard, usually it cost almost 50%-60% of the new laptop.

Let us return to the discussion about needing a cooling pad or not? For your information, theres two main processor most laptop use nowadays that is an Intel processor and AMD. Good news for Intel Processor
laptop, overheating rarely happen unless your laptop are already old(the fans all covered in dust reducing its effectiveness) and as I said before, you purposely block the air vent.

AMD processor on the other hand is a fast processor. A speed doesnt come without a price. More speed means more heat generated. For me, Laptop with AMD processor better to have a cooling pad. Not all cooling pad will be effective, but, if you want to see a difference in temperature drop, you better use an aluminium cooling pad. It cost more than a plastic cooling pad but its far more effective than a plastic cooling pad as it absorb the heat and transfer it fast.

Other factor that cause temperature to increase is Graphic Card. Theres two type of graphic card that people often look for.
1) NVIDIA
2) ATI

The cases is the same as the processor. ATI Graphic Card generate more heat than NVIDIA as it is faster than NVIDIA if you compare product with the same benchmark. I myself using ASUS K50IN with Intel Core2Duo Processor + NVIDIA GeForce102M Graphic Card and ASUS K50AB with AMD Turionx2 + ATI Radeon Graphic Card. Both of the laptop have the same specification but the difference lies in the processor and Graphic Card. I can feel the ASUS K50AB is faster than ASUS K50IN but it always high in temperature and makes me sweat whenever I play(I compare with the same games-eg. Need For Speed MW).
ASUS K50IN on the other hand never gives me heat problem. I always comfortable working with this laptop even without Cooling Pad. All I need to do to maintain its temperature is put the laptop on hard surface and make sure nothing block the air vent. Ive tried running my laptop 2 days nonstop and this(ASUS K50IN) never overheat.

As a conclusion, actually, whether you need to use cooling pad or not is depends on your laptop processor and Graphic Card and also your laptop air-vent system. Remember, a good laptop always comes with a good ventilation system, so, only buy a cooling pad if you think it really necessary. I forgot to add 1 thing, the surrounding of the laptop may also affect the heating of your laptop. So, you might also considering your surrounding condition.

Thats all from me... Thanks for reading this post... Please comment!!!

My Laptop Screen Is White

Saturday, July 12, 2014

My laptop screen is white, experience overtime has shown that the cause can be conveniently narrowed down to three and by following simple troubleshooting techniques we can zero down on the actual cause of the fault. So when your screen starts behaving funny don’t write off the laptop yet or rush into conclusion that you need to buy a new screen.

The truth is when the screen of a laptop develops a fault, most people feel it is something that they can’t handle on their own, hence they go looking for an engineer down the road to help them fix the laptop back, but fixing a laptop screen may not be as complicated as you are meant to believe by the engineer, it is something that you can do very much handle on your own.

Possible Faults
  • Loose connection between the video cable and the LCD screen or a bad video cable
  • Faulty or bad LCD screen
  • Faulty or bad VGA card
Solutions
  • Connect an external computer monitor to the laptop, to do this just connect the monitor to the VGA port at the back or side of the laptop, then switch the video output from internal to external mode by holding down the Fn + F (that has a TV icon on top of it) keys. On some laptops, to switch to external mode, you have to restart the laptop after connecting it to the external monitor, so that it can detect it. If the external monitor displays fine, then you have a problem with the LCD screen or video cable, but if the image displayed on the external monitor is the same as the one displayed on the laptop LCD screen, then it means that your laptop LCD screen is OK.
  • If the external monitor image is the same as the one on the laptop LCD screen, then it means that the laptop’s VGA is faulty and needs to be replaced or the motherboard itself needs  to be replaced, in situation where the VGA is permanently attached to the motherboard.
  • In some case, the cause of the problem might be a loose or faulty video cable. To check this connection, you have to disassemble the laptop LCD screen panel. Wait a minute, before you embark on this, please click here for a step by step guide on how to disassemble an LCD screen. After you have succeeded in taking apart the LCD screen panel, reconnect the video cable and ensure that it is firm, but if this does not work it means that the video cable is faulty and needs to be replaced.
